![]() “I am on 14-inch drywall stilts,” said Chang. I found him waiting for a service elevator, looking visibly weary. I particularly admired a family of Mario Kart racers (complete with vehicles strapped around their waists), a gender-bent Harley Quinn with a gorgeously-detailed hammer and a Skull Kid from “The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask,” designed by Sandra Thomas, who works in Shakespeare Theatre Company’s costume shop.īut cosplayer Jeremy Chang literally towered over the crowds in “Warhammer 40K” armor so huge it prevented him from taking the stairs. Of course, it wouldn’t be a fan convention without superb cosplay, which often stopped me in my tracks.Ĭosplayer Jeremy Chang in a hulking outfit from “Warhammer 40K.” Chang had to wait for the accessibility elevator since the costume was too big to allow him to walk downstairs. Its developers sold plushies of the titular Rabbit in the hope that proceeds could finance further work on the game, which is only available as a demo. Bright and cheery, it revolved around cute animal characters and colorful puzzles. The neighboring “ Squirrely Roo Rabbit” offered just about as extreme a contrast from “Screaming Savage Blood Death” as possible. James Interactive hopes to release the game by this October. One developer, James Interactive, brought an arcade cabinet loaded with their upcoming “ Screaming Savage Blood Death,” a pixelated survival horror adventure inspired by dark New Jersey lore and a notorious NES “ Friday the 13th” title. Games got their due as well, in a small arcade featuring a wide range of indies. But since it’s cool in San Diego, we made him wear an extra green tee I got earlier and leggings.Caption: James Interactive, demonstrating upcoming retro-indie game “Screaming Savage Blood Death” out of an arcade cabinet they made. He insisted not to wear anything underneath. Size large fit him well that the polo shirt looked like a “dress”. We found the exact green polo shirt at Walmart too! Adam is 8.5 years old but he’s very small. All you need is an oversized green polo shirt. At the very last minute, he made up his mind to be Link from Majora’s Mask. Adam hasn’t decided which “green” link he wanted to be. Didn’t try permanent markers nor highlighter, perhaps that would work too. Īs for the long sleeve undershirt, I drew the pattern using orange and green markers that I got at Michael’s clearance. I did it one side per night because you need to let it dry completely. I outlined the shirt using Happyatom’s template and bust out my painting skill. I didn’t use iron vinyl technique, instead, I followed Carrieelle to draw the pattern with white fabric paint. I found this youtube tutorial that teach you how to make champion tunic. The boys love wearing leggings because it’s comfortable lol. The length of the t-shirt is long enough to serve as a tunic for him. Perfect turquoise blue with V-neck so I didn’t have to cut the collar! I got size small for Owen, who is 5.5 years old about 42-45” tall. Hopefully, my DIY costumes would be “compatible” and cost less… You can actually buy this costume from the internet but it is expensive, totally not worth it (to me). Okay, let me start with Link from Breath of the wild. Trust me, it's not that difficult.Īlthough I needed to work on 2 Link costumes, it’s pretty much the same approach. I know there're moms out there like me would just want to make easy and "cheap" costumes. I hope that you would find this useful for making your Link costume - from head to toe. ![]() Here, I’m writing this blog to share my DIY experience. I found a couple sites that are very useful and helped me tailor the boys’ Link costumes. But I did enjoy the process, somewhat like baking - therapeutic when I worked on it late at night alone - a little me time. It involved a lot of googling, Pinterest, Youtube search, and of course, sleepless nights - a couple hours each night for 6-7 days. I had about 2 weeks to finish this project before comic con. They also requested their specific swords and shields. Yes, there’re different Link versions even though they are all green. Adam decided to be LINK from the Majora’s Mask at the last minute. Owen wanted to be LINK from Breath of the Wild in the blue Champion Tunic. Since I never bought overpriced costumes for kids, DIY costume was the only way to go. As we would be going to San Diego Comic Con this year for the first time, we came up with the idea of Zelda Cosplay at comic con. ![]() The Choi boys are so addicted to “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” video game on Nintendo Switch now.
